What Religious Education and Catholic Life looks like at St Boniface Catholic Primary School.
At St Boniface’s Catholic Primary School we warmly invite each child to embark on a meaningful journey with Christ. We are committed to nurturing the faith of every child so that they have a deeper connection with God. We encourage all of our pupil to recognize and develop the unique skills and gifts that God has bestowed upon them.
Our Religious Education teaching is rooted in the Lighting the Path, Salford Diocesan Scheme and Come and See schemes of work as approved by the Salford Diocese. We pride ourselves on being an inclusive school, championing the British value of mutual respect for diverse faiths. Each year our pupils will explore various other religions including Judaism, Sikhism, Hinduism, Islam and Buddhism.
From Early Years to Year 6 each class engages with the teaching of the Catholic Church while following the pattern of the Liturgical calendar. The topics we cover align with the church’s calendar but are explored at an age appropriate level in all year groups.
We enrich our Religious Education curriculum through the development of the Catholic life of the school by engaging in a variety of activities. These include but are not limited to:
At St Boniface we also embrace Catholic social teaching through our Caritas, Chaplaincy and Laudato Si teams. These focus on nine key areas and offer extensive opportunities for our children to explore our mission ad Catholics in today’s world. Additionally it supports the Spiritual, Moral, Social, and cultural (SMSC) dimensions of our learning and our Relationship and Health Education curriculum (RSHE).
We use the ‘Big Questions’ to inspire questions, thoughts and feelings at the beginning and end of each topic. These questions encourage children to develop deeper thinking skills linked to all aspects of religion and beliefs and are used to develop an awareness in our children that sometimes, especially in RE, we don’t have answers to all questions and that is what faith comes from.
Children are able to talk enthusiastically about their knowledge and understanding of religion. Children across the school articulate well about the need to be respectful of different beliefs.
Pupils will gain knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith, know how people of different religions may express themselves and treat people equally regardless of background or beliefs.
Pupils use acquired vocabulary in lessons. They develop an understanding of their own spirituality and faith but also the need to be respectful and tolerant of others.
Parents and carers reserve the right to withdraw their child from all or part of RE lessons.
